So I was wondering in what direction other then the randomness of my head that this blog can take and I realized I do have loves that might be useful for you to read about. Books and computer games. This also includes Xbox and maybe playstation 3 games. So mixed in with the aspects of my day that I share there will also be some book and game reviews.
First author I am going to be reviewing is Beverley Harper. This is one special lady. She was born in Australia and moved to Africa and was only going to spend one year there. She spent 20. Her memories of Africa have provided the inspiration for her best-selling novels. She died of cancer in 2002 and I have started a collection of her novels.
Her books are obviously based in Africa and most have individual stories with a couple that are related family wise but a good 20 years down the track. If you do not like books that are descriptive then maybe these are not for you as to fully immerse yourself in the African cultural feeling then you need a fair bit of scenery description as well as background culture description such as the history of the Zulu people etc. Even though are fully fiction the books do tread on issues such as racism and a lot of animal welfare as poaching is a major issue in Africa. If you like to learn about Africa politically from both sides of the fence then these books are also a must read. I learnt a lot about Africa from reading these books as Beverley can mix the right amount of drama and non fiction input. Even though Bryce Courtenay is still my number one Africa based novelist, Beverley is a close second. My favourite book is this one;
This book is based in 1945 onwards and is following the two families King and Mpande. One white, one Zulu. A bit conventionally the Kings own a sugar cane farm and the Mpandes work on the farm. The story is based around two of the sons that become friends and follows the difficulty and rewards of having a out of race friendship. I highly recommend these books!
On another note this is one of the best juices I have ever had;
Its sold at this place called cupcake central, which by the way sells the most AMAZING cupcakes ever made. Made with all natural ingredients and free range eggs. So this juice range comes in around 7 flavors and one day I went to pick one and of course I would pass on the one that looks like wheat grass and vomit. But the nice man swore that it was the best, and it was! Its pretty much a mix of apple, banana, oranges and kiwifruit and this thing called 'spirulina' which im not sure what it is but im guessing a replacement for sugar. Its only 0.3% of the total ingredients, all the rest is fruit. Its a New Zealand company so not that local but if you manage to see it, give it a go! its 2 servings of fruit!
